Determining scores sometimes relies on keeping tallies of greetings, handwashing, and noting how long certain materials were accessible. To facilitate this need, the ERS Data System includes electronic worksheets for the environment rating scales based on the authors’ extended score sheets. With ERS worksheets, you can use special controls to eliminate having to do your own calculations. You can also draw, and take notes that stay in your own handwriting. To open the worksheets, tap on the Item Bar.
In the worksheets, you are able to select a pen or highlighter and then the color and thickness of your pen stroke.
Depending on the item, worksheets may contain multiple tabs. There are three main types of tabs within the worksheets: (1) Controls Tabs which contain controls used for checking off items, counting, and/or calculating percentages; (2) Notes Tabs which allow you to use the tablet pen to take notes in your own handwriting; and (3) Informational Tabs which contain additional information to aid in scoring. Examples of this include meal guidelines, playground information, diaper changing procedure, and table washing procedure.
Some worksheets contain scoring prompts on the “notes” tab containing text that can be used to assist in determining an item’s quality score during an observation.
Some worksheets, such as the one for item 2, Furnishings for routine care, play and learning, contain a Controls tab in addition to the Notes tab. This tab contains counter controls used for counting the number of things you see during the observation.
